Here's the run down on the Klondike Derby: We went up through Morgan County and up into a huge campsite. There were hundreds of scouts. We found the site for us and started getting the tent up. Note: It was extremely windy and hailing. We got the the flimsy tent up and then guess what? We took it down because of the wind! Literally at the exact time we put the tent in the trailer the wind just stopped blowing.😡 The other leader was setting up his tent so we just went in there. this is how the leader probably felt:😱💀😾🖤❌👺💩😠 Me and my friend Hyrum built a snow cave and went sledding in the site.  Then we made hot dogs. Mine would not cook!🥶 Then we went to bed. We were in a tent with all the boys. Addison is growing up before our very eyes! He got his Webelos and Arrow of Light at the end of November, and got to cross the bridge into boy scouts, which is insane. He's going on his first winter campout next week! Finding out about the changes for 11-year-olds His class in school has had a rough year. They were really excited to get to 5th grade because of their awesome teacher, but then she quit a week before school started. Then they had a really nice teacher who came out of retirement at the last second to teach them, and then she quit after first term ended. The class is a handful, with several students who can't seem to control themselves, which is no fun for Addison a lot of the time. But Nate and I are sure proud of the successes he's had this year. He's a kind boy and a good friend. He got to participate in Images of Greatness, where he did a major report and memorized presentation on Jonas Salk, the inventor of the polio vaccine. ...

You read it right, Addison got to participate in the Pinewood Derby this February! He'll be an official cub scout in December, but all this year's incoming boys were invited to join in the fun to get a little taste of what scouting is all about. He and Nate enjoyed the one-on-one time getting the car put together. He named it "Lightning Splatter." Here he is telling us all about it. Getting pumped watching the first races. Each boy got to race his car four times - once on each track. Addison's did great. He even won one of his races! Nate and I are so proud of Addison! He was a good sport and had fun. It was a little heartbreaking for him to watch the shiny trophies go to other boys, but he handled it about as well as any tender-hearted seven-year-old could be expected to. I think he liked being around all the boys and is excited to be a real live scout.
