Klondike Derby

             Here's the run down on the Klondike Derby: We went up through Morgan County and up into a huge campsite. There were hundreds of scouts. We found the site for us and started getting the tent up. Note: It was extremely windy and hailing. We got the the flimsy tent up and then guess what? We took it down because of the wind! Literally at the exact time we put the tent in the trailer the wind just stopped blowing.😡 The other leader was setting up his tent so we just went in there. this is how the leader probably felt:😱💀😾🖤❌👺💩😠 Me and my friend Hyrum built a snow cave and went sledding in the site.  Then we made hot dogs. Mine would not cook!🥶 Then we went to bed. We were in a tent with all the boys.

    We went to bed and got up in the morning in a crazy mood.😜 We went into a leaders car and had muffins.🧁 Then me👾 and Hyrum🐱‍🐉 went sledding on a giant hill by the site. We raced some other people on the hill and won every time. The best one went like this: The kid we were against was on the best run. We were riding on plain snow. We did the count down and he went three seconds early! We went after him curving on the path behind him. We zoomed in front and crossed in front of him on the path. We reached the bottom while he pulled up behind us. We shot off a jump and landed in a ditch. I think we won.🏆🥇🏅 Then we went down to the derby. We started out learning about avalanche safety.🏔 Then we met some search & rescue dogs.🐶 We then learned about first aid.😷 Then came the sled race. On our first run one of the kids tripped and we lost. On the second run the sme kid tripped onto the sled and it completely broke. We lost.😖 We went home and it was over🚙

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. And the day we bought our first shovel. The last major one was probably at Christmas, when we finally strung lights from the top of the house instead of just in the windows. Well, it's time to put a big, fat check in another "established" box - the one labeled Chickens. Yes, we are now the proud and clueless owners of a chicken coop, chicken run, and six chicks. From the way we latch onto nostalgic back-to-the-farm ways, you can tell that Michelle and I are both several generations removed from actually having to survive off the family farm. But we are excited to teach our kids more about where their food comes from and to give them a chance to take some responsibility for other living things. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
