April Fools!

This April first, our kids really capitalized on the fact that April Fool's Day fell during spring break. They got up early, because it was spring break, and found that Nate had provided them with their gateway drug, blue milk, before he'd left for work that morning.  After that, it was all fooling all the time. Most of the tricks involved food coloring or tape. Here's a sampler for you of what went down. It's hard to see in the picture, but Leah taped all the piano keys together so that whey you played one, they all played. Fruity dino-eggs, by Addison. Purple and green pancakes, by Bryn and Asa, to go with the colorful eggs. Leah's out of order sign. On a diaper. It's Leah and Bryn! No - Bryn and Leah! I can't tell them apart! Stickers on the windshield And one on the backup camera. And a poo bandaid, which we thought was very appropriate for April Fool's Day.

Never in my life have I successfully April Fooled anyone. I recall as a tween being desperate for ideas of amazing ways I could prank my family members. The best I ever came up with was putting saran wrap over my parents' toilet seat the night before. It didn't work, and my father was not amused. This year spring break and April Fool's day coincided, and so I swiped an idea from Pinterest and we had "backwards day," meaning dessert for breakfast, dinner for lunch, lunch for snacks, and breakfast for dinner.  It was awfully fun to plop bowls of this in front of the little ones for breakfast. And no one complained. Bryn, our resident health nut, was scandalized and demanded that I slice an apple and that everyone eat at least two slices of it. Truth be told, Addison confided that he was a "feeling a little queasy" after breakfast, and I was right there with him. All day, in fact, I echoed the sentiment. My stomach, for one,...
