Halloween

This year for Halloween we decorated our front yard, carved pumpkins, and did some trick-or-treating and a movie night with the cousins.

A local Baptist church sold pumpkins for a fundraiser, and that's where ours came from.




The pumpkin Addison chose was impossible to carve. It was like a rock! So it's gracing our porch through the month of November, too. We did a quick Walmart run to find one he could actually carve.


Emmie's pumpkin didn't take long to paint, so she got to have doughnuts and apple cider before anyone else.






A lady in our neighborhood invited us to come preview the spooky backyard she'd prepared for her grandkids. Decorations, actors, treats, even the Great Hall of Hogwarts where all the kids got to be sorted into houses! It was such a treat!

The weather was perfect for trick-or-treating! We had the Aarons over for a quick dinner and then hit the streets for some selective trick-or-treating. We wanted to avoid going to every house in the universe, because of Covid, so we mapped out a route and went pretty early. The neighborhood really went all out for Halloween this year. I think we're all in need of any reason to connect and celebrate right now! As a result, we ended up finding full-sized candy bars at four(!) houses!

Emmie was a chicken. Frankly, I'm just relieved that she agreed to wear something. I was nervous she'd elect to trick or treat naked for awhile there.

Addison went out with a bang and dressed as a mindflayer (from D&D) for his last year of trick-or-treating ever! He stayed home to hand out candy (to like one person) while we took everyone else trick-or-treating, and then when we got back and it was dark, he and Dayson went out together and pounded some serious pavement.


After trick-or-treating was done, we headed home to trade/gobble candy and watch Hotel Transylvania.

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. And the day we bought our first shovel. The last major one was probably at Christmas, when we finally strung lights from the top of the house instead of just in the windows. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
