Coronavirus, Homeschool, and Earthquakes, Oh My!

 Here's just a smattering of what we've been up to since the entire world has shut down. As the photos show, Emmie and I spend lots of time together. I think overall, we're loving all being home together. We're still adjusting and trying to work out a schedule, but life is good. We have Grandma in town and may never send her home! Also, we had an earthquake yesterday morning. At 5.7 on the Richter scale, it woke me up from my early-morning dozing and sent Nate running out of his office, our closet. Everyone else slept through it! It felt like sitting on a pot of boiling water. Kind of wavy instead of just shaky. Pretty wild. There were several aftershocks through the rest of the morning and early afternoon.

Overall, we're grateful to be alive, we're grateful to know who and whose we are, and we're grateful to have each other!

The kids and I went to the trail by the creek to pick up trash. We found lots, and it was a gorgeous day!







We got to host a Grandma-planned surprise birthday party for Sonnet! She was so thrilled.




We've been trying to take a little walk every day after dinner. On one of them we ended up at the church park. 




 At the device pick-up for Addison, Bryn, and Leah's school. They'd set up hula hoops six feet apart from each other to give people personal space. At Asa's it was a drive-through sort of affair where they came out to the car. 

The cafeteria was full of iPads!

Getting 'er done. Even fifteen years ago, this kind of work and school would've been impossible because we didn't have the technology available. It's a miracle!

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. And the day we bought our first shovel. The last major one was probably at Christmas, when we finally strung lights from the top of the house instead of just in the windows. Well, it's time to put a big, fat check in another "established" box - the one labeled Chickens. Yes, we are now the proud and clueless owners of a chicken coop, chicken run, and six chicks. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
