Lunch with Daddy and Liberty Park

Having lunch at Dad's work was something we really wanted to do this summer. When we got down to the final week before school, we decided it was now or never, so down to Salt Lake City we went. Bri was with us and had been for a while, and it was fun to take her down to see temple square. It's so beautiful there. And it's always a treat to see Nate in the middle of the day.

When we were done with lunch and had walked around a little, Nate took Bri to the train so she could head back to her neck of the woods. I took the kids over to City Creek Center. We saw the fish and almost got Bryn's ears pierced on a whim and visited the Disney store, which in some strange way made us all feel so . . . happy. I think they put drugs in the air vents or something. We headed from there to play at the dinosaur playground. It was packed. We got in and got back out pretty quickly, and Bryn hurt her leg, so I got to carry her in the blazing heat while Addison drove the stroller in a manner that left me feeling lucky he didn't end up with a DUI.

Nate helped us to the car, kissed us all goodbye, and the five of us drove to Liberty Park. Kim went there with her kids recently and found a really cool play area called the Seven Canyon Fountains, and I decided we'd better give it a try. It did not disappoint. We will definitely be revisiting it next summer, if not before. The water is all very shallow, and is in channels that represent the seven canyons around Salt Lake City. There are stairs and sneaky paths through the trees and a large wading area at the bottom. The three oldest played hide and seek for a long time and I followed Asa around and took great pleasure in watching him adventure and explore. There were quite a few kids there, but it's a really big area and didn't feel crowded at all.

When we were done, we picked Nate up from work and we all drove home together. This little guy finally got his first nap of the day! He was a champ and played hard all day long with very little whining. I'm proud of myself for leaving the house and daring to take all the kids more than five minutes away from the house without Nate. We may do it again sometime!

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
