First Hike of the Year: Adams Canyon
Our family has a goal to do fifteen hikes this year! I thought we should try for ten, and Nate thought twenty(!), so that's where we got the number. At this point in our family's development, a successful hike equals an attempted hike. One that we start, at least. We never finish. We just go until someone's beginning to turn into a pumpkin, or until we're almost late for something, then we head back to the car. Also, we're not particularly well-outfitted. We do have a baby backpack, and also a couple camelbaks for water that Nate and I carry, which are really handy. Throw some snacks in the mix and that's it, baby. That's our 2015 family version of a hike. So here we go: hike number one!
ADAMS CANYON
Pluses:
-Once you make it up the initial ascent and reach the water, you stay by the water the whole time.
-You're also in the shade while you're by the water.
- Lots of dogs. Addison is loving dogs in a major way these days. The kids got to practice asking people if it was okay for them to pet their dogs.
Our little puppies.
Baby toes meet mountain stream. Delightful.
Minuses:
-The initial ascent is a pretty killer ten(ish) switchbacks.
-So crowded! I'm not sure if it was just because it was the first weekend with nice weather of the year or what, but there were people everywhere!
- And bikes. Lots of bikes. Again, not sure if it was the weather. The Bonneville Shoreline trail part especially.
- Cranky, cranky Leah. Woo doggies that girl was whiney. But then we parked it by the stream, had a snack, and let everybody throw rocks in and dip their feet in and she was magically transformed. Thank heavens!
Beautiful trail! There were lots of little waterfalls like this one. At one point, Addison notified Nate and I that he'd had a "cool, refreshing drink." As in, out of the stream. Yeah.
By the end of the hike, Bryn's pants wouldn't stay up because she'd stuffed her pockets so full of rocks.
