Georgia Vacation: Go Time

We shook things up a bit this year by taking our annual vacation to Georgia in May instead of July. It had its advantages, for sure: not completely sweltering yet; Beck and Ben were there from Ohio; great deal on plane tickets; sandwiched in between all heck breaking loose back home. It was perfectly timed and a wonderful trip. We were there for almost two weeks and got more than our fill of adventure, overeating, and chillaxation. The next several posts will be a recap. We'll start with "Go Time."

UTA recently finished a Trax line that goes all the way from downtown Salt Lake City to the airport. We figured it'd cost like $8 total for the train, we could avoid airport parking (the cost and the headache), and it would be fun to take the train. And we were right! Okay, it was Nate's idea, so he was right. Here we are at the beginning of our grand adventure, awaiting the train.



The flights were long but pretty uneventful. The kids all behaved admirably. Addison and Bryn and I even got recruited to do a three-minute workout with a mob of people in the middle of the airport to be taped for some fitness club in Australia. We are so famous!

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
