2012 Wrap-Up

I wanted to finish out last year real quick, since it is February, after all. We took a trip down to Provo and stayed in a hotel one night to visited with Beck, Ben, and Trevor. We had so much fun. The gents were kind enough to take the kids on Saturday morning so Beck and I could go buy ridiculous fingernail polish and fabulous jewelry and just hang out. It was so fun! I wish they hadn't moved! Ohio schmohio if you ask me.

Nate's folks were up for the new year, which was fun. They are such party animals (those of them who can stay awake past 8:30 - not mentioning any names, Dad). Me and Nate and his Mom all combined our brain and manpower and totally figured out one of the super hard wedgit designs from one of Addison's Christmas presents. We are so cool and impressive.
Nate wasn't feeling great so we turned in early, but the new year came in anyway. Turned out two weeks later we found out he had strep throat. Ah January, you stink.

Nate got lots of chances to rest on New Year's Day, and the kids and I had a "tea party" lunch up in their room. It was seriously a blast. My family always had a veggie tray for some reason on New Year's Eve, which we all enjoyed, so I've always wanted to pass the tradition on. The kids really enjoyed eating in their room and getting to choose what they ate. They both even tried the hummus! They liked the bean dip better, though. We will most definitely be repeating this next year.

 Growing up we always had black eyed peas and greens on New Year's Day. It's a southern thing. Supposed to bring good luck for the new year. I've never actually done it in our married life, so I decided now was the time. We had rice, black eyed peas, cornbread, collards, and carrots. And it was darn good. And we will be very lucky this year, I'm just sure of it.

Throughout our married life, Michelle and I have pointed out things that show we are "established." The day we got a bed frame, instead of just having a mattress on the floor, was a big one. Tide Pools and Big Trees Days 1-3

By the end of last school year, one thing was painfully apparent: we needed a vacation. We were all beyond burned out. So Nate worked his magic and combined our hopes and dreams into one amazing, unforgettable trip. We drove to northern California to see the redwoods and go to the beach in search of tide pools. We stayed in the perfect little vacation rental by a river full of tadpoles and spent our days exploring and our nights hot tubbing. Our only regret is not staying for longer. (And that one time that Bryn threw up all over the car . . .) Here are some pictures of our amazing trip, which we named, "Tide Pools and Big Trees." We did lots of driving through the desert. This was the highlight of the first day's journey, the "Tree of Utah." Nate stayed up real late making these amazing landmark maps for the kids to follow along with. Michelle's Side of the Family Comes to Town

A couple weeks ago, Jenna received her endowment. What a special event in our family! The way schedules worked out, it made the most sense to do it here, in the Bountiful Temple. So we got to have tons of my family in town, which is a rare and most delicious treat. Jenna and Preston came, of course, and Brianna and Mason, Mom and Dad, and Rebecca and her brand new baby, Austin. It was a house full of fun!  It was a very fast visit, but it was just wonderful.  The first day we got to have Bri and Beck and Austin tag along to ballet and the grocery store, and then we decided that we'd better go to lunch at Zupas. From there it's all a blur, but more people came, we hung out, stayed up way too late, got to show off our new house, and generally had the time of our lives.
